Christmas Ornaments as Stocking Stuffers

Christmas Stocking Stuffers OrnamentsI started this little tradition of mine when the kids were young. I love Christmas and adding new Christmas ornaments each year was something I definitely planned to do. But, I found a fun way to do it.

Each person in the family gets a new ornament in their stocking every year. But, not just any old ornament. I make sure it is representative of the individual so that it means something to them.

Here’s what I do:

Choosing Just the Right Ornament

I love glass Christmas ornaments. I think they remind me of my childhood, a bit of nostalgia at a time of year when we all celebrate family and close friends. So, for our family tree, I knew I wanted the majority of the ornaments to be glass. There are some exceptions, though. When I find just what I want and it’s not glass, I don’t let that stop me!

I have a husband, son and daughter that I fill stockings for. Each year, I would begin looking for an ornament that would have special meaning to them — a hobby, sport, personality, or something they love. I have had a blast coming up with ideas and searching the internet for the ornaments.

Here are a few that I have purchased in the past:

I decided to get my husband a pumpkin pie ornament. He doesn’t get pumpkin pie except for November and December each year and it is his favorite pie in the world — only complete with whipping cream. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was perfect!

That year, my son was a pizza eating machine! It was what he wanted to eat morning, noon and night! It was a simple choice, really. I was a bit surprised that someone made pizza ornaments but thrilled at the same time!

Since I was on a food kick with the ornaments, my daughter got an ice cream cone. She has always loved ice cream cones. Not sundaes or ice cream in a dish, cones. I thought this glass cone ornament was gorgeous!

All three ornaments were very well received by my family.

This Year’s Christmas Ornaments for Stocking Stuffers

I have been doing this for about 20 years now, so it’s harder each year. I have covered all the sports and sports teams they support, as well as a lot of the ornaments that reflect their personalities. I was running low on ideas.

However, after spending sometime online, I think I have finally made my decisions for this years ornaments. What do you think?

Coaching Ornament for Daughter
My daughter is a college student studying for her degree in athletic training. She was a 3 sport athlete all through high school and just loves anything to do with sports.

This year, she secured her first head coaching job — track coach for a charter high school. She is juggling school and coaching but absolutely loves it. I think this ornament may end up being her all time favorite.

New York Ornament for Son

My son was able to visit New York City this year for the first time. He loved it! He’s really into history and visiting landmarks. He always wanted to go to the East Coast and was thrilled when this opportunity came along.

He got to visit all the places he’s only seen on TV or in the movies. Thrilling for him, for sure. I thought this ornament would always remind him of his trip.

My husband has just recently taken to running in races. He’s always worked out and ran as part of his cardio workout but he had a friend talk him into entering a race and was hooked.

His running shoes are his babies. He wipes them down after every practice and race. He really enjoys running in 5 and 10K’s and just said the other day, he wished he’d started 20 years ago. I think he’ll love this ornament!
